ABOUT ALLIS-CHALMERS TIRES
Allis-Chalmers built the WD-45 from 1953 to 1957, and it's the machine that pulled a lot of mid-century American family farms. It's the bigger sibling of the WD, with a 226-cubic-inch six that gave it the weight to handle three-bottom plowing on most soils. WD-45s still show up at the auctions in Northeast Ohio every spring, usually with tires that have been on them longer than they should have.
The factory front size is 5.50-16 — the same front rim as a post-1952 Ford 8N, which is useful to know if you're cross-shopping. Rears are 12-28, R-1 ag tread for working tractors. If you're restoring to factory paint and want a period-correct diamond-tread front, those reproductions are still being made; if the tractor is going back to work, modern equivalents from BKT or Deestone are the practical answer.
