OWNER NOTES
What we see with the BX23 around Cleveland.
The BX23 is the loader-and-backhoe-equipped sub-compact Kubota built in the mid-2000s, and it's the BX-series variant owners most often use for actual ground-moving rather than just mowing. Stock fitment on the R3 turf option — the most common factory spec — is 18x8.50-10 fronts and 26x12.00-12 rears, the same platform that runs across the BX1880, BX2380, BX23S, and BX2680. R4 industrial and R1 ag variants are factory options too; sizes can differ from the R3 spec, so the size already on your wheel is the one to confirm before ordering.
What we usually hear from BX23 owners:
- Loader-work front-tire wear is the single most-common BX23 complaint. The R3 turf front is shallow-tread for grass and isn't built to chew dirt; owners doing meaningful bucket work report uneven front wear within a season or two, sometimes with splits in the tread sipes from sidewall flex under loaded buckets. The standard fix is a switch to R4 industrial.
- The BX23 shares its 18x8.50-10 / 26x12.00-12 R3 platform with the rest of the BX-series. If you're maintaining more than one BX, a single tire order can usually cover the fleet — same wheel pattern, same R3 sizes.
- R4 industrial holds up better on dirt and hard surfaces than turf does, but R4 will cut ruts in wet grass when the tractor is run in 4WD, which is one of the reasons people buy a BX in the first place. Some owners split the difference with R3 fronts and R4 rears, or move to the R14 hybrid tread Kubota now offers as a factory option on some L-series machines.
UPGRADE OPTIONS
When the OEM isn't the right answer.
3 common situations + the tires we recommend instead.
FOR LOADER-AND-BACKHOE WORK
The R3 turf front wears quickly under bucket work — shallow tread, soft sidewall, not built for dirt. R4 industrial is the standard upgrade: deeper tread, stiffer sidewall, much longer life on hard surfaces and loaded ground. Confirm the R4 size on your wheel before ordering; tread options on the BX-series don’t always come in the same size as the R3 stock spec.
▸ R4 industrial front swap
FOR PRESERVING THE LAWN
R4 industrial cuts ruts in wet grass when the BX23 is run in 4WD, and 4WD is one of the reasons people buy a BX. Owners who mostly mow but occasionally do dirt work sometimes split the difference — R3 turf fronts to protect the lawn, R4 rears for the load-carrying. Trade-off is one set of treads is always wrong for what you’re doing.
▸ R3-front / R4-rear mixed setup
FOR THE BX-SERIES SIBLINGS
The BX1880, BX2380, BX23S, and BX2680 all share the same 18x8.50-10 / 26x12.00-12 R3 turf fitment as the BX23. If you maintain more than one BX in this size class, a single tire order covers them — same sizes, same R3 stock spec. Confirm the tread option on each machine before assuming.
▸ Same R3 fitment across BX-series
SAME FITMENT, DIFFERENT MACHINE

Same 26x12.00-12 rear and 18x8.50-10 front fitments.
